Which zippers do you need?

A zipper is chosen by its teeth, not by its colour. The teeth decide how strong it is, how it looks on the finished garment, and how it behaves after a hundred washes. These are the four constructions asked for most.

Questions buyers ask about zippers

Which zipper should I use on denim?
Metal, in almost every case. Denim is heavy and takes hard wear, and metal teeth carry that load better than moulded plastic. Metal is also what buyers expect to see on jeans, so it reads as correct as well as lasting longer.
What is the difference between an open end and a closed end zipper?
An open end zipper separates completely at the bottom, which is what a jacket needs. A closed end stays joined, which is what a trouser fly, a skirt or a cushion needs. Tell us which one and we will not have to ask.
How do I measure a zipper?
Measure the teeth only, from the top stop to the bottom stop, not the tape ends. Zippers are usually ordered in inches. If you have the old zipper, lay it on a ruler and send a photo.
